Do you want to know what I’m craving? A good samosa! Samosas are quick, delicious, filling, and almost always affordable. Really, how can you not be craving one (or five)? There are many different variations of the traditional Indian dish, and I’m pretty okay with all of them if I’m being honest. Whether you’re looking for a western spin on the samosa or the real Indian deal, Ottawa has got a place for that. Here are my top 5 favourite places to grab samosas in Ottawa. I hope you love them as much as I do!

East India Company - 210 Somerset Street
East India Company has been going strong for 32 years with locations in both Winnipeg and Ottawa. Though the Ottawa location has only been open for about 2 years, they have already been widely recognized as some of the city’s best Indian Cuisine, being awarded the titles of “Best New” and “Best East Indian” in both their years of operation. Though you really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, I would highly suggest their samosas, or their samosa/pakora platter. Not only are their samosas perfectly flaky on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside, but they have four types of chutney to choose from that I just know you’ll fall in love with. If you have authentic Indian food in Ottawa, East India Company is the answer to your prayers.

Light of India Restaurant - 730 Bank Street
This lovely, warm restaurant is the perfect place to stop if you’re craving Indian cuisine. It is conveniently located in the heart of the Glebe neighbourhood. They host lunch buffets on the weekdays, a brunch buffet on Sundays, and an a la carte dinner menu as well. Their samosas are the perfect way to kick off a sensational, authentic Indian meal or just a great snack when the mood strikes. You are going to fall in love with their entire menu, but I’m willing to bet you’ll be craving those samosas the very next day.

Host India - 622 Montreal Road
Ladies and gents, this place is an absolute must-try! I would recommend Host India to anyone. The offer their delicious eats in both a daily lunch buffet and an a la carte menu. The menu is filled with different flavours that will most definitely have you coming back for more. With excellent choices of meat, seafood, and vegetable dishes, there’s something for everyone. If you don’t feel like leaving the house, that’s cool, they deliver. Now, let’s talk samosas. They make some of the most mouth-watering samosas I’ve ever encountered. Both their veggie and beef options will have you wanting more. If you’re a meat eater, I highly suggest you give the beef samosa a try, it’s beyond delicious.

Perfection-Satisfaction-Promise - 167 Laurier Ave E
Well, friends, I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this excellent restaurant with all of you! You are going to love it here, I’m certain. Perfection-Satisfaction-Promise is a vegetarian restaurant which serves unique, creative dishes that are bursting with flavour. The environment is peaceful, welcoming, and cozy; in addition, their staff is the friendliest you’ll come by. You’ll find dishes inspired from different countries across the world, made with locally sourced ingredients. As for samosas, theirs are to-die-for. They have veggie samosas which you can get baked or friend, as well as a curried spinach & tofu samosa. You won’t believe how amazing these flavours are!

Haldi East Indian Cuisine - 449 Preston Street
In Hindi, Haldi means Turmeric, which (as I’m sure you know) is a spice commonly used in Indian dishes and is known for its pungent fragrance, strong flavour, and bright yellow colouring. The benefits are incredible, and the flavour can’t be beaten. This restaurant utilizes this key ingredient as much as possible and offers their customers the best quality ingredients at all times. One of my favourite things about Haldi is their affordable, scrumptious lunch menu filled with small bites, soups & salads, wraps, “curry in a hurry,” and, of course, samosas! Both their veggie and chicken samosas are incredible, you should probably go get some right now.
